Kahanamoku Reef (Mini Version)

Gabe Aiello
Cyanotype on raw canvas

26 x 32 in (66 x 81.3 cm)

Gabe Aiello III, born and raised in New York City, works at his studio in the Bronx. As a master printmaker and cyanotype engineer, he employs various printmaking and sculptural techniques to create vivid, stark imagery on large industrial metal surfaces, canvases, and paper. His work explores wide ranging themes such as nostalgia, love, and even the parallax between present-day virtual warfare and the connection between touch and sight. Aiello's academic background in studio art and physics was acquired at the University of Miami, Anabuki College of Design in Japan, and East China University. Initially focused on film photography and oil painting, he quickly moved into combining engineering and printing methods. His etchings, which blend vivid, multi-layered screen prints onto metal, reflect a fascinating yet frightening interplay of themes, often drawing on chemical and mechanical engineering research. Internationally collected in cities like Tokyo, Paris, London, and São Paulo, Aiello's work has been exhibited in renowned venues such as the Louvre in Paris, MoMA in New York City, and the Lowe Art Museum in Miami. His extensive body of work, combining electricity, printmaking, and sculpture, has made a significant impact in both solo and group exhibitions worldwide.
