Lilah Yektai is a New York based painter with a background in textiles. Currently enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design, Yektai marries textiles and painting through an appreciation of their painterly processes and the pure love for the act of painting itself. She uses intimate sceneries of her girlfriend to enact this experimentation of the components that make up a painting. She takes inspiration from her painter grandfather, Manoucher Yektai and painter father, Darius Yektai. While lathering impasto strokes, Lilah intertwines weaving, embroidering and sewing throughout her painting process to create a conversation between color, texture and surface tension. Her paintings accentuate their material relationship to a lens becoming love letters through which she absorbs the viewer.
