About

Born in Hasparren in the Basque Country, Richard became the French inter-league motocross champion at the age of 16. Passionate about imagery, at 19 he worked as an assistant at the VOGUE studio. He then decided to turn his focus toward new horizons. "Sophistication makes me uncomfortable, I love both strength and flaws in people" he said to describe his work. Richard moved to Australia, where in Sydney he met the COMANCHEROS MC, a group of bikers who, at the time, had made headlines due to a gang-related shooting. He then began his work on motorcycle clubs. The magazine Photo published a portfolio on this subject, which was widely recognized around the world.

His meeting with MICKEY ROURK proved to be pivotal. Rourke invited him to move in with him in Los Angeles and "sponsored" his work on bikers and boxing. Around the same time, Richard met ERIC CANTONA and became one of the official photographers for both Eric and Mickey. This marked the beginning of a long artistic collaboration. From there, he traveled to meet Native American tribes, including the NAVAJOS, HOPIS, and APACHES. Richard spent several months fully immersed in the Native American reservations of Wyoming, Dakota, and Arizona. He then moved on to publish a book on the CHARROS in Mexico. The French army (Sirpa) commissioned him to create a gallery of portraits of its various contingents: he moved from a submarine to the Foreign Legion... Engaged with ACF (“Action contre la faim”), Richard went to HAITI in 2010 to document the devastation caused by the earthquake. He then went to meet the forgotten ones, "the children of the trenches," gangs of young people living in the underground tunnels of ULAANBAATAR.

He published a book on MOGONLIA, NOMAD’s LAND: The Slums of the Cold. As a boxing fan, Richard published two books, “BOXING” & “CHAMPIONS”! About the great champions who have shaped the history of the Noble Art, such as MIKE TYSON and EVANDER HOLYFIELD, as well as the young rising stars. Most of the photos were taken in LAS VEGAS, at CEASAR’S PALACE, the temple of boxing. In parallel to all these reports, Richard regularly photographed artists such as MONICA BELLUCCI, CAMERON DIAZ, TOM HARDY, JASON STATHAM, NAOMI CAMPBELL, DENNIS RODMAN, KIRK DOUGLAS, and many others. His photographs have been regularly published in magazines such as PHOTO, PARIS MATCH, PREMIÈRE, STUDIO CINÉLIVE, SOFILM, NEXT-LIBERATION, MAX, BLAST, LES INROCKS, GQ, VANITY FAIR...
